Originally from Mexico, Francisco LOZA creates Arte en Estambre, or pressed yarn artwork.
LOZA creates his original artwork by working on wood surfaces covered in special waxes as an adhesive base onto which he intricately presses together thread-by-thread of brilliant colored yarns.
LOZA learned the technique from working closely with Huichol artisans and Shamans who invited him to collaborate with them in their communities of the Sierra Madre Mountains of central Mexico.
LOZA gained his first-hand knowledge of Huichol spiritual beliefs and cultural traditions based on his 20+ years of first-hand collaboration with Huichol artists and communities.
LOZA artwork captures the cultural essence and traditions of sacred Huichol communities and other Mexican cultural traditions, including Day of Dead.
LOZA works also reflect contemporary designs, abstract themes, jazz, and powerful 3-D images.
